Not up to the standard I've come to expect from Correia for the MHI books. Oliver Wyman's narration, per usual, is top notch. Here's hoping MHI #7 discontinues along this vein and gets back on track with the earlier novels. Clues are missed and obvious tells are ignored, making listening a bit of a slog to get through, the eventual outcome being no surprise and the listener left frustrated. I'm sad to say there's a lack of balance in Monster Hunter Seige, the adventure is a secondary or even tertiary concern and worst of all, the characters and Owen especially, fail stupid at a number of points in the book. There are some entertaining parts featuring the lively cast of characters in the MHI universe, but there's also a lot of Owen's internal monologing and dialoging about fatherhood, being a father and coming to grips with his childhood opinions of his father. With the above in mind I wasn't surprised to discover that the focus of #6 was on Owen Pitt's impending paternity and his introspection on how his father raised him. Where to begin.well, in honor of Monster Hunter Seige's release I relistened to the MHI series to refresh my memory, anticipating it would pick up where #4 and 5 left off. I really hope book 7 is written by the real Larry Correia. Typical shoot 'em up excitement, if less frequently, not much new added to the story arc, very little resolution, predictable ending, no Franks except for a few mentions of his name, a Harbinger who does nothing worth mentioning, a wimpy Julie, & cameo appearances by Mosh, Ed, Trip & other main supporting characters, a fairly flat storyline, failure to pronounce the author's name correctly even once, so-so narration due to the limited range of the reader, an anticlimactic showdown featuring a 'Friday the 13th' type ending between what should/could have been the most bad*ss villain in all 6 books thus far & Z, & a "Huh? That's it? Really?!" book ending left me very disappointed with Nemesis. However, after reading Nemesis, Siege was a let down. All previous 5 main story books of MHI were fantastic. I really hope Larry Correia does not continue to farm out his excellent MHI series, or write the first book or three of a new series & then become a James Patterson hack who puts his name on other books but actually has little to do with. Left me wondering how much had been written by Correia & how much by his co-author. Both Memoirs books were supersaturated gratuitously with foul language, little substance & read more like fan fiction than anything actually written by the man who had authored the main plot MHI books. Correia, of late, seems to be indulging in over-farming the MHI franchise. Perhaps Correia (according to the author himself it should be pronounced Korea, like the country, & according to me, not Coheeah, as pronounced in the intro & end credit by Audible) is too busy authoring & coauthoring installments for his many other series, & thus fulfilling his seeming goal of becoming a famous, ultra prolific & exceedingly wealthy author, to give this book the attention it deserved. However, rather than squeezing grapes to make juice to make wine to drink, MHI: Siege squeezes bank accounts to make $$$ to make the author richer. ![]() Except that it feels more like filler, lacking substance, & rather than adding depth to the central plot, this installment's purpose seems to be similar to that of a wine press. It continues the story, further setting up the final showdown between Z & his destiny. ![]() These bounties are fulfilled by the United States Government and on rare occasions private organizations. This installment of the MHI series is okay. This organization hunts down and exterminates supernatural threats to mankind such as: werewolves, vampires, and zombies for large cash bounties. The series revolves around characters who belong to an organization known as " Monster Hunter International". Monster Hunter International (MHI) is a New York Times best selling series by author, Larry Correia. Please be warned that this wiki is filled with spoilers about the MHI series.
